Sharkey puts on a show to steal the spotlight

On the national stage, Archbishop Carroll’s Josh Sharkey showed just what he’s capable of doing on a basketball court.

With Kentucky’s John Calipari among the Division I coaches watching courtside, the junior guard scored a game-high 26 points to accompany five assists and three steals as Archbishop Carroll claimed a 72-64 win over nationally-ranked La Lumiere of Indiana at Friday’s Cancer Research Classic in Wheeling, WV.

Derrick Jones added 21 points and 13 rebounds, including an 11-for-13 performance at the line that belied his early-season struggles from the charity stripe. Ryan Daly added 14 points, and David Beatty scored 10 for the Patriots (6-4).

In other nonleague action:

Bonner-Prendergast 71, Tacony Academy 45: Tyler Higgins asserted his will in the post with 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Friars (7-3) eased to victory.

Marques Jackson added 14 points as 11 Bonner-Prendie players hit field goals.
