Johnson’s hot start sends Chester to opening-round win

Chester High passed its first-round District One Class AAAA tournament test with flying colors Saturday afternoon.

Mahir Johnson scored 11 of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter as the Clippers cruised to a 76-45 triumph over West Chester Henderson.

Chester (18-5) faces Souderton in a second-round game Tuesday night.

The Clippers used a 20-2 run in the first quarter and never looked back, taking a 26-7 lead into the second period. Johnson was a big factor, shooting lights out from the beyond the arc (three 3s).

Keyonte Watkins collected 12 points and Tyrell Sturdivant chipped in with 11 for the Clippers.
