The Haverford School basketball program knows there has been years when it had the best player in the Inter-Ac League, years when it had the most overall talent.

But all of that is recruiting jibba-jabba if the season doesn’t end with a league title. That is what Eric Anderson is after.

The senior forward has his future set — he is going to Yale for an Ivy League education/hoops exacta that is tough to beat. That leaves him to enjoy the here and now, and after watching the Fords suffer heartbreaks the past few years, he wants to punctuate his time with the Fords with a title.

“It’s something I haven’t done, something our school hasn’t done since 1999,’ Anderson said. “It’s really been our focus. That is the big one — winning the Inter-Ac.’

That plan nearly had a wrench thrown into it Tuesday, when a sluggish Haverford School squad somehow managed to hold on for a 54-47 home win over Penn Charter.
