The fist pump by Liutauras Repsys was about more than just a free throw buried with 2.4 seconds showing on the clock.
It was about more than banishing a 2-for-7 afternoon from the charity stripe for the Cardinal O’Hara junior center. The emotion was bigger than helping his Lions surmount a 22-point deficit, erase a scoreless first quarter and claim a win over neighborhood rival Springfield.
For Repsys, the shot that clinched a 54-53 win for the Lions at the Play for Gray Day Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Haverford High School was a thank you to a community that has welcomed him with open arms.
“It’s gratefulness,’ the lanky Lithuanian said. “I’m grateful for them having me. They brought me here. They let me play on the team. They let me into their family, and they are teaching me to get better.’
