Archbishop Carroll’s bus was late arriving to the Geigle Complex at Reading High School.
The Patriots walked into the gym moments after the game before them had wrapped up, and just 40 minutes until their own tipoff with District 3 champion Steelton-Highspire in the PIAA Class AAA round of 16.
But as soon as the game tipped off, you’d have thought Carroll had been in the auxiliary gym practicing all afternoon.
The Patriots jumped out to a 17-1 lead midway through the first quarter and never looked back, cruising to an 83-54 win over the Steamrollers.
On Carroll’s first offensive possession, junior Ryan Daly made a skip pass to a wide-open David Beatty in the corner. The sophomore drained a 3-pointer right in front of the Steelton-Highspire bench for the game’s first points.
Down the other end, Daly rejected a layup attempt and corralled the rebound before outletting to junior point guard Josh Sharkey, who was fouled going to the rim. He would make two free throws.
