Carroll out to prove it’s best in the state

There’s no need for hushed tones or minced words. There’s an obvious reality that pervades Archbishop Carroll’s workouts.

“It’s the same story as last year. We haven’t won anything yet,’ senior guard Joe Mostardi said Wednesday. “I haven’t won anything yet, and it’s disappointing because we’re definitely a team that should be winning. … After we take the state championship, hopefully, that’s more of living up to our expectations.’

That’s the complex tale of this year’s Patriots (21-4). In absolute terms, they are a talented team, among the best in the state. But as yet, they haven’t been the best, not in the Catholic League, not in District 12 Class AAA, not in anything save for an in-season weekend tournament. All season, they’ve been regarded as one of the best in the state. But their schedule has forced it to be couched with caveats — in any other league, in any other year …
