Cumberland Valley head coach David Vespignani said that Sunday’s “Hoops for Harmony Stand Against Racism Tournament” game against Chester at Chambersburg High School was a good measuring stick for the boys basketball program.
The Eagles (8-4) went toe-to-toe with the Clippers (6-2) for more than three quarters and enjoyed a 4-point lead in the early stages of the fourth. But Cumberland Valley’s offense vanished for five minutes while Chester went on a 10-0 streak that the Eagles couldn’t recover from and they eventually fell to the Clippers, 50-42
“Win. lose or draw, we were going to come out see where we stand with annually one of the best programs in the state of Pennsylvania,” Vespignani said. “We went toe-to toe with them and we were close, but to get over the hump to be where we want to be as a program, it’s not about being close to Chester, but finding ways to win that game.”
