The question of Derrick Jones’ health after a hip injury sustained last Friday night was cleared up for Archbishop Carroll coach Paul Romanczuk, well, last Friday.

“I think when he went up for the second of those alley-oops, I didn’t really need to ask him how he was feeling,’ Romanczuk said Monday.

It’s a good thing for Carroll, the third-place team out of District 12, which will need its All-Delco forward at full strength when they face District Two champ Abington Heights in the second round of the PIAA Class AAA Tournament Tuesday night at Parkland High School. Tip-off is at 7:30.

Jones limped off to the locker room with 1:25 left in the second quarter of Carroll’s 57-35 win over Manheim Central following an awkward fall with his left leg caught under his body.

He returned in short order to provide a game-high 15 points as the Patriots waltzed to victory, but he hobbled off again late in the fourth quarter after landing on a teammate’s foot and twisting his ankle, sporting a noticeable limp afterward.
