It doesn’t really matter which recruiting site you prefer to frequent because as they often are with elite players, they’re all in agreement.

No matter which way you want to slice it, there’s no denying the talent of Archbishop Carroll junior forward Derrick Jones. ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals and Scout will all tell you the same thing: Jones is an athletic marvel who ranks among the top 15 players nationally in the class of 2015.

A bevy of the country’s heavy hitters have courted Jones, the 6-6, 180-pound with more hops than a bouncy ball careening off a wall, with the likes of Syracuse, Kentucky and Kansas clamoring for his services.

All of that made Paul Romanczuk’s postgame admission all the more surprising after his team’s narrow 59-55 win over Abington Heights in the second round of the PIAA Class AAA tournament Tuesday night at Parkland High School.

“I just apologized to Derrick,” Romanczuk said. “We went away from him and I need to be the coach and step up and say, ‘big players make big plays,’ and we should have went to him sooner.”
