Archbishop Carroll coach Paul Romanczuk did what any good coach would after a questionable decision was made by one of his players.

He took the blame.

The Patriots’ season came to a stunning finish Friday night at Archbishop Ryan. They fell to Philadelphia Electrical and Technology Charter, 52-51, in the quarterfinal round of the PIAA Class AAA tournament.

Ernest Aflakpui, the Patriots’ 6-9 junior center, was whistled for a goaltending violation in the waning seconds to give Philadelphia Electrical a 52-49 advantage. Moments earlier, Devante Truitt nailed a pair of free throws to give Philadelphia Electrical the lead for good.

Following a Carroll timeout, the Patriots held the ball for the last shot.
