GIRLS: Jones leads Chi to a happy return with win over Lower Merion

Chichester’s long-awaited return to the court was a success.

After not fielding a team last season, the Eagles delivered a season- opening win for first-year head coach Kimberly Wood at the Lower Merion Tip-Off Classic Friday.

Dujwana Jones produced 17 points, seven rebounds and five steals as Chi nipped the host Aces, 43-42. Damiyae Moyet made two 3-pointers in the third quarter and finished with 13 points for the Eagles, who stormed back from a 2116 deficit at halftime.

Rose Henry buried four 3-pointers and ended with 21 points as the Panthers won the first game of the Media Tip-Off at Penncrest.

Mackenzie Irey registered points and 11 boards for Haven, which led 32-16 at halftime. Defensively, the Panthers were led by senior Zoe Trotter and freshman Maryella Gill, who combined for 11 steals.

Senior center Melana Timmes notched a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Vanguards, who shot 16-for-35 from the foul line. Freshman Briella Wright scored nine points.

PENNCREST 49, ACADEMY PARK 29 » The host Lions dominated the Knights, 22-10, in the second half. Kathryn Harding and Bailey Garrison each scored a game-high 16 points. Chloe Griffiths pitched in with six points.

Emani Banks led the Knights with seven points.

HAVERFORD 48, SPRING-FORD 38 »

Caroline Dotsey took control in the

second half, scoring 13 of her gamehigh 17 points, as the host Fords knocked off last season’s PIAA Class 6A tournament runners-up.

Emma Rowland added five points, a game-high 13 rebounds and four assists. McKenna Walsh hit three 3-pointers in the second quarter to give the Fords a nine-point advantage at halftime. The Haverford Tip-Off Tournament continues Saturday.

GARNET VALLEY 46, NORTH PENN 32 » The Jaguars used an 18-7 run in the third quarter to pull away from the Knights. Emily Olsen had 16 points and freshman Haylie Admaski added 13 for GV. Katelyn Dugerty contributed eight points in the win.

PENN WOOD 38, POPE JOHN PAUL II 32 » Ani Roscoe tallied 11 of her team-high 15 points in the second half for the Patriots. Xenia Gillis also had 11 points after halftime and finished with 14 points.

Freshman Janie Preston netted a team-high 10 points for the Pioneers.
