Girls & Boys: Preuhs’ career day leads Sun Valley to victory


Jania Preuhs scored a career-high 27 points as Sun Valley extended its winning streak to four games with a 45-30 victory at Academy Park on Saturday. Preuhs was 13-for-18 at the free-throw line for the Vanguards (10-11), who led 26-11 at halftime. The senior guard also racked up three steals and two assists. With the win, Sun Valley remains alive for one of the final playoff spots in the 12-team District 1 Class 5A tournament.
The Knights made a run in the fourth quarter to cut their deficit to seven points, but Preuhs hit a transition 3-pointer off AP’s full-court press to extend SV’s lead back to 10 points with four minutes to play.
Brielle Wright chipped in with nine points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists for Sun Valley. Rory Tiedeman contributed four points, five rebounds and three steals. Freshman Sam Baron played a key role in a spot start and fellow frosh Luci D’Amico hauled in eight rebounds. Alavsia Kinlaw paced the Knights with 12 points.

Penncrest 70, Chichester 26 » The Lions (14-7) exploded for 31 points in the first period and rolled past the Eagles. Bailey Garrison tallied 14 of her game-high 16 points in the opening quarter. Kerri Ann Huggins added 14 points and Raegan Viau ended with 11. Zanai Coleman led Chi with 10 points.

Springfield 27, Upper Dublin 9 » The Cougars’ defense was excellent in this one, limiting the visiting Cardinals to no more than three points in a single quarter. UD (13-8) had been averaging 44.5 points per game. Kaitlyn Kearney tallied a game-high nine points. Lexi Aaron added seven for the Cougars (17-4).

Sacred Heart 41, Upper Darby 23 » Sophomore MJ Donohue tallied a career-high 17 points and came away with live steals for the Lions, who raced out to a 19-4 lead after the first quarter. Keara McCalfery registered a double-double with 16 points, 16 rebounds and live blocks. Mia Wilson netted a team-high eight points for the Royals.

Chester 51, Friere Charter 49 » Shyne Hall had another big game with 23 points, six steals and three assists for the Clippers (9-10). Imani Dorsey totaled 18 points, 11 rebounds, live steals, four assists and a pair of blocks

In the Inter-Ac League:

Notre Dame 58, Germantown Academy 50 »Annie Greek poured in a game-high 17 points, and Lizzie Halligan, who made a trio of 3-point baskets, finished with 14 for the Irish (14-10). Catie Kelly and Chloe Knox each had nine points.

Boys Basketball

Yassir Joyner exploded for 32 points in Upper Darby’s 69-54 win over Kennett on Saturday, the Royals’ third straight win. Nadir Myers added 10 points for the Royals (15-6).

Chester Charter SA 59, Mount Calvary Christian 51 » Kevin Miller drilled four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 18 points for the Sabers (16-3). Jayden Williams and Azarhis Smith collected 10 points apiece.

Sun Valley 66, SLA-Beeber 50 » Chris Kwaidah scored 12 of his 18 points from beyond the arc to lead the Vanguards. Noah Griffin netted 14 points and Bucky Grayston produced 10 points, 15 boards and three blocks.
