Brian Allen saved Springfield in regulation, then Chris Strawley did the same in overtime.
Allen’s 3-pointer sent the game to overtime, Strawley swatted away a shot with 1.5 seconds to go and William Allen missed a shot at the buzzer to give the Cougars a 50-48 win over the host Canaries to claim the William Allen Tournament Saturday.
In the extra frame, Kevin McCormick connected on a 3-ball to give Springfield (6-2) a 48-46 lead and Sean Carpenter had a big putback on the ensuing possession to stretch the lead to four points. Allen cut the lead to two, but Strawley smacked an attempted trey into the bleachers to set up the last shot, which clanked off the rim.
Allen finished with 13 points, while McCormick joined him in double digits with 10.
