Beatty paces Carroll in pivotal Catholic League clash

Dave Beatty scored a season-high 18 points, including 12 in the second half, as Archbishop Carroll topped La Salle, 69-57, in a battle for space near the top of the crowded Catholic League.

Josh Sharkey scored 17 points, and Derrick Jones added 15, while Jones and Ryan Daly (nine points) provided solid defense in the second half to make sure the Patriots (12-5, 6-2) tied the Explorers among the two-loss Catholic League teams.

Also in the Catholic League:

Archbishop Wood 72, Bonner-Prendergast 58: Marques Jackson (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Tyler Higgins (13 points, 12 boards) both turned in double-doubles, but the Friars never recovered from a 10-point halftime deficit.

John Hargraves added 10 points for the Friars (10-8, 3-6).

At the Hoopgroup Showcase:

Westtown 70, Chester 38: The Clippers (11-6) lost consecutive games for the second time this season, failing to recover from a 26-4 margin after one quarter in a game played at Parkland High School. Maurice Henry had six points and eight rebounds to lead Chester.
